WHAT IS HOLISTIC HEALTH, AND WHY DOES IT MATTER? World Health Day - 2021

Have you ever felt sick to your stomach when you were feeling stressed about a life event? Have you ever felt so run down physically that it began to negatively impact your relationships? Or have you ever lost a sense of hope, resulting in a bout with depression? Why do we have these reactions? Many scientific studies have proven that our health and wellness are affected by the interaction of all aspects of the self and environment. Stress, in particular, significantly affects our immune system. It likely wouldn’t take too much self-reflection for each of us to be able to recognize this in our own life experiences.

Both holistic (whole person) healthcare and faith systems point to these important elements for wellbeing:

  • Unconditional love and support can be the most powerful healing agent.

  • Improvement in life involves empowerment to make informed choices.

  • Meditation, forgiveness, acceptance, gratitude, hope and love all have a powerful impact on well-being.

At the Dawn Centre we invite individuals to experience physical, emotional, relational and spiritual wellness when facing an unintended pregnancy and/or related sexual health needs. We believe that unconditional love is something every human needs. We recognize that one choice never defines the whole life of a person. We appreciate that we are all on a journey and in need of support that can empower us to make choices toward improving our well-being, regardless of our circumstances.

It is important to recognize that our journey to health involves considering what we allow in - physically, mentally, relationally, emotionally, and spiritually. What will you invest in each of these areas to care for yourself? Who will you invite in to support you in the journey? Whatever you choose, it matters, because you matter.

The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy.”
